February marks the beginning of American Heart Month. During this month, it's important to reflect on our lifestyle and learn about the dangers of heart disease, and how you're able to reduce your risk of a heart attack, stroke, and other heart-related complications. By being physically active, eating healthier foods, getting enough sleep, not smoking, and reducing stress, you can reduce your risks of a heart disease. Here's a breakdown of the steps you can take:
❤️ Being Physically Active:
If you head to the gym and excercise, you can decrease your risk of a heart disease, even if you don't have a crazy workout. Instead of sitting down, you should get up from your desks every hour or so for a few minutes to walk.
❤️ Eating Healthy:
Try to stick with diet beverages, and steer clear of processed foods. If you look in the ingredients of a product and you see words that are hard to pronounce, it's most likely processed, and you'll want to avoid it. Instead, eat steamed food with lean protein, and snacks with minimal added sugars.
❤️ Reducing Stress:
Studies have proven that depression can elevate your body's level of inflammation, which contributes to your risk of a heart disease. To reduce stress, you should consider seeing a therapist if needed, or incorporating mindfulness practices such as meditating when you're free.
