As the last week of November approaches, it is officially time to discuss Mariah Carey and her extremely famous- to some infamous- pop hit: All I Want for Christmas is You. The song has had a death grip on society every 25th of December since its release in 1994. Regardless of whether people can't stand the song, or never fail to be charmed by it, All I Want for Christmas is You has reigned triumphant for a quarter of a decade. This remains true even while taking into consideration the ever changing styles and approaches in the music industry, and the numbers are impressive whether we want to admit it or not. To commemorate the song's presence in our lives, let's quantify just how impact it has been. The digital streaming of both audio and video versions for this song totaled at around 230 million. Digital sales were at 100 thousand and radio streaming reached just over 42,000. This is a multi-platinum song, meaning it has sold one million copies numerous times, in addition to consistently topping the Billboard Holiday Hot 100. It also marked a significant point in the music industry history in around early 2019, when Mariah Carey's song hit number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. This made it the first ever holiday song to reach top 5 in the ranks in 60 years, as well as being the second-ever festivity-related song to reach that high in the charts. Overall, it can't be denied that this an irreplaceable song, quite literally, as it has been proven certain chords make it "the most Christmassy" song to ever exist. The melody in itself is also quite complicated, but latches onto the brain after hearing it enough, making it literally impossible to forget completely. Clearly, Mariah Carey had plans while producing the song, and the controversy surrounding it years later is only a testament to her achievement of this goal.
