Many have been familiarized with Elon Musk’s influence in today’s society, mainly due to his billionaire status, questionable business endeavors, and eccentric tweets. However, these traits may not validate his current recognition and achievements as much as some claim; Musk’s ventures tend to be counterproductive, un-innovative, and more often than not for the purpose of growing his own wealth. Take, for instance, Tesla. A little known fact about this popular company is that Elon Musk did not establish it, he simply bought out the creators and labeled himself as the original founder, and not a very good one at that.

A variety of safety concerns quickly reveal themselves while using the cars, despite the average $80,000 that buyers spend. Being locked out due to coding issues, battery leaks, and effortlessly bypassing the autopilot security measures with an orange all serve as clear examples.
Currently, Elon Musk’s main priority in regards to improving Tesla conditions include getting the onboard computer to play multiplayer games. To top it all off, Tesla’s main selling point (sustainability) is barely achieved. While it remains true that after around 20,600 miles on the road Tesla becomes more efficient than a gasoline or diesel vehicle, another factor also affects the environmental impact of cars: location. Methods of generating the electricity that is used to power electric vehicles varies from place to place. Norway, for instance, relies more on renewable sources than certain locations in Asia, making electric cars able to fulfill their purpose. However, not surprisingly enough, Elon Musk’s latest expansions involve new factories in China and India, two heavily coal-reliant countries.
In regards to Musk’s other companies, similar patterns show. The Boring Company was founded with the objective of creating a high-speed underground system of tunnels, which cars would access in order to avoid traffic. Interestingly enough, this sounds remarkably similar to an inefficient metro adapted to suit solely Tesla users. To fund this incredibly “original” idea Elon Musk received 800 million dollars from the mayor of San Jose to cover a distance that totals to 8 minutes by car. SpaceX, although better, exhibits comparable issues. By launching thousands of satellites (and a car) into space via the Starlink program, Musk has effectively ruined terrestrial astronomy. The shiny objects reflect light back to Earth, making it impossible to take a photo of space without it being covered with invasive, white streaks.
Musk’s greatest, and arguably only, improvement to our lives is Paypal. Aside from the three flawed companies mentioned above, Elon Musk also routinely violates labor laws and has no maturity. Needless to say, this is not a figure deserving of the attention he receives, making him the most anti-climactic businessman to date.
