Why should we care about climate justice?

These past few years we have been seeing that climate change is a real problem we have that will be hard to fix. From the highest temperatures we have seen in years to the loss of water in certain areas, many people have learned and noticed that we have to fight for our planet.

From these expected changes, a new concept known as climate justice has been created. Climate justice addresses the equitable distribution of benefits and burdens of climate change as well as responsibilities we should follow within climate change. The creators of this new idea have brought this concept a step farther. Instead of climate justice being an environmental or physical nature issue, now it’s a legal and political issue, which has brought a lot of people to think of how we can imply climate justice to our daily lives. Many different organisations have entailed this idea as well.

Another was to describe climate justice is by saying that it is not only a concept but it's also a reality that is going to affect all of us. What climate justice is trying to show us is how we can share benefits because many countries are going to be affected by the climate in a negative way. Certain countries are going to be flooded once in a while, while others will have extremely high or low temperatures that are unbearable. This will not only affect what we produce agriculture wise but also many people will have to immigrate to other countries in order to not die of starvation, high temperatures, dehydration… This is something that a few fortunate people are not seeing today in the area they live, but that will see in the future. Many places around the world have been victims of climate change that are risking their lives such as Thailand with long rainy seasons, Vietnam with strong storm waves, European countries with high levels of temperature…

We should care about climate justice because a lot of things we have today will disappear in a reasonable amount of time. The world will have to start helping each other in order to survive climate change. Climate justice is a way to defend and encourage others to help the planet, and that it's not too late to make even the smallest change.
