The reason why in the UK on the 5th of November you are met with fireworks and all sorts of fun and colourful explosions is because Guys Fawke's assasination attempt consisted of using gunpower in order to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening. It is also common practice to burn a figure that bares shocking resemblance to Guy Fawkes on the 5th of November. It's shocking how the failed assasination of a member of the monarchy has become a staple in UK culture.
