The Strange Origins behind Guy Fawkes Night

"Remember remember the 5th of November"

A tale that has become synonymous with the UK is that of Guy Fawkes and the events that occurred on the 5th of November all those years ago in 1605. The infamous celebrations' roots date back to when Guy Fawkes' attempted to assasinate King James I and the members of parliament by blowing up the House of Lords. The reason why in the UK on the 5th of November you are met with fireworks and all sorts of fun and colourful explosions is because Guys Fawke's assasination attempt consisted of using gunpower in order to blow up the House of Lords during the State Opening. It is also common practice to burn a figure that bares shocking resemblance to Guy Fawkes on the 5th of November. It's shocking how the failed assasination of a member of the monarchy has become a staple in UK culture. Guy Fawkes night has also become a moment of bonding with loved ones whilst watching beautiful fireworks colour the night sky.
